Mr. Squirrel

Welcome SQUIRREL

On the first day of school we read SHH We Have a Plan written by Chris Haughton. It is an awesome story about friends trying to catch a bird different ways and one friend out of the loop. The friend who is out of the loop is always saying “(h)i birdie!” and is always told to “SHH!”. He is eventually the one to “catch” not only one but what looks like hundreds of birds through an act of kindness. The story ends with them running away from the birds and finding a squirrel. It ends off leaving us hooked thinking about what they will do next.

That is where our book comes in! We thought about all the different ways we could catch a squirrel and illustrated them! Each student drew their illustration in pencil. Then Mrs. Bahr and I traced over their drawings with permanent marker, and then the students used watercolors. We bound these illustrations to create our own SHH book!

I want everyone to enjoy our book and our friend Mr. Squirrel at home! In a red and white spotted bag you will find the original SHH book, our classroom book, Mr. Squirrel and a home journal. This bag will come home with your child for TWO nights! If it comes home on a Monday please return Wednesday morning. If it comes home on a Wednesday please return on Friday morning. Please take pictures, have your child draw, scribe for your child or any other awesome idea you have! We want to share all the amazing adventures Mr. Squirrel goes on! I can’t wait to see what the year has in store for him!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Love,
Miss Brehm

First Day Fun!

Today was a wonderful day! We had fun exploring our classroom, learning different expectations and just getting to know one another! We enjoyed our first special today LIBRARY! Mrs. Burroughs is so nice and we enjoyed our time together. As a class we read the book Shh We Have a Plan by Chris Haughton. It is a wonderful book that we will be creating our first classroom book about! In the whirl of the end of day I forgot to send home the first day letters with our schedule. I will make sure to get them home tomorrow in Thursday folders. I am so happy that we are all together! I can't wait to see what this year has in store for us!  Love, Miss Brehm
