Mathematicians

As a class we have started to solve addition word problems and discuss the three most important things to have when solving a word problem. Those three things are a number sentence , labels and a picture to show their thinking. Throughout Math Workshop we have been solving problems together and each mathematician has a chance to solve a problem on their own. We take turns explaining our thinking and examining other mathematicians work to see similarities and differences! Above you can see how we solved this one problem together. Making sure that the  number sentence is  labeled  using the first letter of the word to identify what it is, also making sure at the sum to write out the full  label  and finally circle the answer.   5b+3b=8balls As a group we also discussed the importance of how to draw the  picture  to show our work. The  picture is an important part so that the reader can follow the mathematician's thinking. Our mathematicians use dice a lot and talked about

12 Down 7 More

We finished our twelfth classroom book! That means we have to make seven more before June so each friend can take one home! Feel free to stop in and check them out! It is so cool to see their work put together!  Love, Miss Brehm

Elephant and Piggie (3)

Elephant and Piggie was AMAZING! We had so much fun and enjoyed every second of the play! The play did a great job of seamlessly mixing together all of our favorite Elephant & Piggie books! Love, Miss Brehm

Get Movin'

Who doesn't love a jam!?! Love, Miss Brehm p.s. They are really catchy and I am sorry if you find that your child is constantly singing! I can never get them out of my head... Cat Party is the worst! I will share that one sometime!

Reading Machines

We are a group of reading machines and it is awe inspiring! To see the growth friends have made is heart warming. To celebrate I took pictures of each reader. I will post them around our classroom celebrating how much we love to read! Love, Miss Brehm

Elephant and Piggie (2)

TOMORROW is the day! The day we go to the Flynn to see Elephant and Piggie! We could not be more excited! On Friday a Flynn teacher came to talk to us about what to expect. As a group we practiced all the different emotions, sad/happy/excited/silly, Elephant and Piggie talk to each other. It was the perfect way to get us excited and ready for the show tomorrow. It's going to be amazing! Happy Monday! Love, Miss Brehm

Rainbows and Goodbyes

Who doesn't love an art project for the first couple days after break!?! To symbolize spring coming (hopefully soon even though I am dreading the reported 19 inches of snow we might get on Tuesday) we made spiral rainbows to decorate our hallway! We started them yesterday using watercolors... and finished them today!  They add beautiful technicolor to our hallway!  We ended our morning with Nurse Amy coming in to say goodbye. She left us with her beloved storytelling of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Tortoise and the Hare .  Nurse Amy will be missed, but she's going off to bring babies into the world so we decided that was a good reason for her to move on from JES.  It has been a busy three days in kindergarten and it's just getting started! I can't wait to see what the next two months have in store for us!  I wish you well. Love, Miss Brehm

Flynn Trip

Today we went to the FLYNN! It was so much fun. We loved listening to the beautiful music and learning about all the different instruments! Here are some of our highlights from today!   I was blown away by how respectful, kind and engaged our friends were today! They rocked it today!  Love, Miss Brehm
