Helping Hands = Yummy Vegetables & Herbs

Happy Monday! Today we were able to help Nurse Amy in our school garden. We met our fourth grade buddies (Mrs. Ehtesham's class) and went out together to help! We picked weeds, tomatoes and beets, planted basil for our school pesto and watered all the plants in our garden! We had so much fun. It was a great way to meet our friends and be positive community members of JES. After about thirty minutes of work Mrs. Ehtesham read The Ugly Vegetables written by Grace Lau. It is a great book talking about the importance and benefits of growing vegetables! It even has a recipe at the end. I will send it home with the Home Folders this week! Hope you had a wonderful day! We sure did! Love, Miss Brehm

Fantastic Friday!

We've made it through the first three days of school! Woohoo! What an amazing three days they have been! Yesterday we focused on writing the numbers 0,1 and 2. We also worked on writing the letter Bb! It was such a beautiful day outside that we all went out to recess a little early! We have really enjoyed getting to know each other and most of all playing together! Hope you are having a great weekend! Can't wait for Monday!  Love, Miss Brehm

Day Two: Exploring, Making Friends and LEARNING!

We had a great day today! We were able to make MUD in our sand table! Everyone got a chance to mix it up! It was fun. Today we started working on Fundations, introducing the letters Tt and Bb. Everyone received their own student notebook (very exciting) and completed the lowercase t page. As I said yesterday our class is a group of hardworking, thoughtful, energetic students! I can already tell! I hope you enjoy these pictures of us throughout various stages of the day! As they always say pictures speak louder than words! (At least that's what I say!) :-) And a group one for the end of the day!  Hope you all had an amazing Thursday! Love, Miss Brehm

Happy First Day of School!

Today was a truly fabulous day! We spent the day getting to know one another (including Fin) and what is expected throughout the school and our classroom! A notice, classroom schedule and lunch schedule was sent home today in each child's backpack. I hope you find that information helpful and allows for great dialogue at home! I was extremely impressed with each and every student. We have a class of respectful, caring and empathetic students, which is such a treat! I am so excited for this year and to see the strides we make as a learning family! I know we will do amazing things! Here is our daily schedule! Welcome Fin!

On Friday we welcomed Fin into our classroom! He will be our new classroom pet and will teach us about responsibility, love, kindness and compassion. Fin will be our inspiration for many of our stories and drawings! He is very excited to meet everyone in two short days!

Only One You

Wednesday was wonderful getting to know each and everyone of you! I am so excited to embark on a fabulous year with you! I know it will be great! While we were together we shared in our 'Cookie Jar Greeting', then I shared one of my favorite stories Only One You written by Linda Kranz. This book is about a little fish who is going out into the great big world, but before he can do that he needs to listen to some great advice his mom and dad want to share. Before Adri, the son, swims away he tells his parents that he will remember everything he learned. His mom kissed him and said "There's only one you in this great big world, (m)ake it a better place." Once we finished reading we talked about how we could do that and how each and everyone of us is special in our own way! Each student received a fish that he/she could color however he/she wished. This was a great time to talk and learn more about one another. At the end we said goodbye, everyone excited for ne
