Miss Brehm's Kindergarten Classroom

We had a wonderful celebration with our PJs and Stuffys! Our stuffies helped us read, write, complete math tasks AND (most importantly) PLAY! It was a fun day in K!  We started to learn about poetry! As a class we read a book, watched some spoken word poetry and then began to write a whole class poem. We talked about all the different topics you could write a poem about and chose Zogika! Here is what we have so far!  Zogika I love Zogika a whole awful lot. He lives in a fish pot. He makes me smile and looks like a crocodile! Zogika swims all around. He swims like a merry-go-round! After, each writer had the opportunity to work on their own poem. The writers chose to write about topics they love! Once they are finished we will publish them and post them in our wonderful hallway!  Happy last day of MAY! (CRAZY!) I wish you well! Love, Miss Brehm

Friday we worked on our LAST classroom book! Bringing our total to 19!! Hard to believe! On the last day of school we will put all the books out on the rug and friends will be able to bring one home to keep FOREVER! It is so exciting! Each book has focused on a specific skill that we learned about this year. Whether it was sight words, drawing/labeling, retelling, sentence structure, counting or the many other wonderful things we have learned about this year!!  I hope you will enjoy our amazing works when they come home!  I wish you well! Our classroom experiment has concluded! We discovered that organisms need three things to survive! Air, Water and Food! Our peas are growing big and strong! We check them everyday! Making sure they have air, food and water! Be on the lookout for these friends coming home with scientists on Thursday! I wish you well! Love, Miss Brehm

Tonight is our ART celebration! Come join us and take in all our beautiful creations! Art is a wonderful outlet for learning! Our celebration starts at 6 and ends at 7! I hope to see you there! She is fresh off a national mural tour sponsored by Benjamin Moore Paint! We are so lucky that she has found the time to share her wonderful talent with us! Here is the link to her website! Check it out!  Mary Lacy's Website Mary is responsible for the gorgeous hummingbird in Burlington, the silo's on Pine Street and other works throughout Chittenden County and the USA! Today it was finally our turn to PAINT! On Friday we brainstormed ideas for our mural. We are the beginning of the alphabet A-I. Ms. C's class and our class met together with Maggie to brainstorm different things that begin with a specific letter. This morning we started out painting! A HUGE thank you to the parent volunteers for coming in and helping!  It was a fun morning of painting! We will be painting again tomorrow from 1:00-1:45!  I wish you well! Love, Miss Brehm

We will change the world. One positive thought at a time. In writing we split into five groups. Each group had a different topic focusing on how to make the world a better place. Each Change Maker wrote their own opinion piece yesterday and this morning we created beautiful posters that will be displayed (TBA at a later date). The topics were... Help People Fire Saftey  Save the Earth Save the Elephants  Don't Litter As a class we brainstormed topics. Then we picked our five favorite. After each friend was able to choose which topic they felt strongly about and that is how the groups were formed. Each group worked hard and took turns writing!
