Friday Surprises!

Today was a wonderful day full of surprises! Our first surprise was a fire drill and an evacuation drill. In the event of an emergency and we are not able to return to school we evacuate to the church down the road on Route 15. WE ROCKED IT! Everyone was calm, respectful and brave. Afterwards we talked about why we would need to evacuate and went over school and classroom expectations. The second surprise was much better (in my personal opinion)! Ms. Graf came to read with us! Every Friday Ms. Graf will come into our classroom and read us a story! It is such a wonderful special treat! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just some notes: If you have not signed up for a parent teacher conference please email me ASAP! I am excited to go to the Kindergarten Pot Luck tonight! Hope to see you there! Pajama Day is this Monday! Woop woop! We are in need of 4 Winds volunteers. Please see the Volunteers Needed post and email

Sunny Day!

It is hard to believe tomorrow is the last day of September! CRAZY! This morning was so beautiful we couldn't stay inside. So we went outside to finish literacy! We played our game I have... Who has... (letter edition). After we played outside and got an extra seven minutes of recess! WOOHOO! Then we took a whole class picture! It will be used in the ending of one of our classroom books!  We also started creating our very own word wall! As a class we wrote the letters and are choosing the pictures that remind us of the sound the letter makes! It was a busy, wonderful, happy day in kindergarten! Love, Miss Brehm p.s. If you have not signed up for a parent/teacher conference please do so ASAP! If you have I sent home confirmation notes in today's Thursday folders! If you have any questions email me! Also please see the posting about 4 Winds volunteers and Pajama Day! Thanks!

Reading Detectives

Today we were reading detectives and writers! We walked throughout the school and seeked to detect words we find in our everyday lives! Friends used their eyes to see and their brains to think so they can READ! We grabbed our clipboards, our pens, paper, reading partners and went detecting! At the end I took all of the amazing words we found such as is, a, pumpkin, principal, fire exit, cafeteria etc. and created our FOURTH classroom book! I hope you can come check it out!  After the amazing reading detectives ate snack and finished calendar we switch on our writing hats. As writers we talked about the many different things we know a lot about. Things we can share and teach others about. Here is an example of one of our brainstorms. If you'd like, at home brainstorm with your child the many different things they know a lot about! Have them draw and write the words as best they can!  Between reading and writing today we had a busy day! A wonderfully dete

Leaves, Pumpkins, Apples and More!

Fall is here! We welcomed it with pumpkin lights around our calendar, officially changing our season on our calendar and making beautiful leaves. (Side note we have been in school 18 days! WOW!) As a class we made community paper. Then traced different leaf patterns on the paper. Mrs. Bahr and I cut them out. Then during literacy we brainstormed some fall words such as leaves, pumpkins, apples, air, jumping etc. Each student chose their own word and wrote it on their leaf. We focused on stretching out the words together. Putting an emphasis on beginning, middle, ending sounds, letter formation and ID. Mrs. Bahr hung them up for all to see! If you have not had a chance come check out the beautiful Fall leaves! On another note, it was a VERY exciting day in our classroom. We got a NEW rug! It is beautiful and lovely. Everyone will have enough space! It's perfect if I do say so myself :D! I have to give a BIG shout out to the PIE committee. If not for them I would not have t

Three Billy Goats Gruff

Nurse Amy came in this morning and performed her rendition of the Three Billy Goats Gruff.  We really enjoyed listening to her version of the story! In reading we are going to focus on all different ways to tell one story! Nurse Amy was our first introduction! She used a felt board with the characters of the story. Nurse Amy also sang the words instead of just reading the story. "Click clack, click clack, let me pass. I want to run in the green green grass". A big thank you to everyone who came to Open House last night! It was so nice to see you! There are still dates available to volunteer for 4 Winds. One for October 24th, one for January 23rd and two for April 17th. All three are from 12:00-12:40 pm. Please email me if you can! Also please return/let me know your top three choices for parent/teacher conferences as soon as possible!  Thank you so much! Love, Miss Brehm

iPads!

Today Mr. Bouchard came in and talked to us about the iPads! As a class we were able to explore them. Mr. Bouchard and I went over the school and classroom expectations on how to use the Ipads.  We promised to: Wash our hands before using an iPad. Keep food and water away from the iPads! Do not change iPad settings. If you get stuck (raise your hand) ask for help! Carry an iPad with two hands Stay on the assigned app.  Then one by one everyone signed our classroom promise with a thumb print! This promise will be hung over where we store our classroom iPads.  It was a wonderful first full week of kindergarten! Love, Miss Brehm
