World Read Aloud Day

Thursday, February 16, 2017 is World Read Aloud Day. This is a day to take action on behalf of the 758 million people who can not read. It is sponsored by LitWorld. Mrs. Burroughs shared information with us that led us to a list of authors that volunteered their time to skype with schools around the nation. How cool!!

As I was scrolling through the authors names I recognized one that we have in our classroom library, Dianne White, the author of Blue on Blue. I was able to reach out and connect with Dianne and she agreed to skype with us on World Read Aloud Day at 12pm! Here is the link to her website http://diannewrites.com/.

We are thrilled and honored that she will be taking time out of her day to share in our common love of books and reading!

For the next month we will be reading the book many times, creating our own book inspired by Blue on Blue and preparing questions to ask Dianne when we skype. If you have any questions or would like to join us please let me know! It is sure to be an exciting moment for us!

I wish everyone a peaceful long weekend.
Love,
Miss Brehm

Day TWO!

Day two is truly wonderful! We have so much fun together! Today we started working on our first classroom book and WOW it's going to be AMAZING! So many beautiful illustrators and creative thinkers in this class. Also today we completed our first of many Math and Writing rotations. It's been a busy busy busy day! Now to the fun stuff. It's always said that pictures speak much louder than words and I agree 100%. So here are the pictures from our magnificent day TWO! Right after lunch we went outside to explore our school garden with Nurse Amy! We picked marigold seeds which we are going to plant in our classroom! Check out all the fun we had!  It was a busy day indeed, but so much fun! I can't wait for tomorrow! Love, Miss Brehm

Sunshine Chair

This is our Sunshine Chair! It is a very special place in our classroom where friends can go to relax, regroup, think and feel safe. In our classroom anyone can go and sit in the sunshine chair any time they want. Friends also may be invited to sit in the sunshine chair. While sitting in the chair friends are able to watch Zogika and calm their minds. It is not just for students! I myself have used the chair once or twice when I am feeling frustrated, sad or if I just need some space. I do this to model the expectations for how to use the sunshine chair, to identify feelings and to help friends self regulate. Also so friends know that it is not a time out chair or take a break chair.  Feel free to stop by anytime and check out this amazing space in our classroom! Love, Miss Brehm

Happy News!

Hello! I wanted to share with everyone that I have been accepted into Oxford University's MSc in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition beginning in the fall of 2017. I received my offer this morning during our delayed opening. Some friends overheard my excitement and I explained to them that I am going back to school this fall to become a better teacher. I reassured them that I am not going anywhere right now, will see them off to first grade and will be back. Thank you for your continued support and I am excited to finish a great year together!
