4 Winds: Skull Sleuthing

Today we had our January 4 Winds! It was SO COOL! We learned about skulls and focused on different types of teeth omnivore, carnivore and herbivores have!

Our time started with a fun puppet show with a squirrel inviting different friends over for a party. The squirrel worried about what to feed everyone and talked about the different types of food animals eat and where they fall i.e. omnivore, carnivore or herbivore.

Then we tried out our teeth! Leigh brought in carrots, popcorn and dried mango to highlight the three different types of teeth you use as an omnivore and to relate it back to the way animals eat different types of food! It was fun to be able to talk about the way we eat different foods!

We ended out time together in two different groups focusing on skulls and examining their teeth. Based on the skull size and their teeth we had to determine whether they were a omnivore, carnivore or herbivore and what kind they were!

It was such a fun day! 4 Winds never disappoints! A huge thank you to the parent volunteers that made it ROCK!

Just an FYI I will be out tomorrow. I am fighting off a cold right now and am hopeful a day of sleep will get me back to 100%.

I hope everyone had a great start to their week!
Love,
Miss Brehm

First Day Fun!

Today was a wonderful day! We had fun exploring our classroom, learning different expectations and just getting to know one another! We enjoyed our first special today LIBRARY! Mrs. Burroughs is so nice and we enjoyed our time together. As a class we read the book Shh We Have a Plan by Chris Haughton. It is a wonderful book that we will be creating our first classroom book about! In the whirl of the end of day I forgot to send home the first day letters with our schedule. I will make sure to get them home tomorrow in Thursday folders. I am so happy that we are all together! I can't wait to see what this year has in store for us!  Love, Miss Brehm

Sunshine Chair

This is our Sunshine Chair! It is a very special place in our classroom where friends can go to relax, regroup, think and feel safe. In our classroom anyone can go and sit in the sunshine chair any time they want. Friends also may be invited to sit in the sunshine chair. While sitting in the chair friends are able to watch Zogika and calm their minds. It is not just for students! I myself have used the chair once or twice when I am feeling frustrated, sad or if I just need some space. I do this to model the expectations for how to use the sunshine chair, to identify feelings and to help friends self regulate. Also so friends know that it is not a time out chair or take a break chair.  Feel free to stop by anytime and check out this amazing space in our classroom! Love, Miss Brehm
