Hour of Code

Today we celebrated Hour of Code week! As a school we take on a challenge to incorporate an hour of coding into our classrooms. Mr. Bouchard came in with eighteen Ipads and taught us a new game, Box Island!

The game challenges students to use coding to get their box all the way around the island. They need to work on problem solving skills in the beginning just getting to the stars. The farther they get around the island the more challenges they are faced with i.e. lasers, boxes, boxes that smoosh you and sea shells that block your way.

Coding is an important language that is shared around the world. It is wonderful we are able to give opportunities to students to become familiar with it at such a young age! We had fun exploring with the game and it was great to see how quickly they picked it up! Definitely a game we will be playing more of!

After we celebrated a friends sixth birthday! I truly love hearing such special moments from each year. Happy birthday!

Today was Manner Day!

I hope everyone has a wonderful hump day!

Day TWO!

Day two is truly wonderful! We have so much fun together! Today we started working on our first classroom book and WOW it's going to be AMAZING! So many beautiful illustrators and creative thinkers in this class. Also today we completed our first of many Math and Writing rotations. It's been a busy busy busy day! Now to the fun stuff. It's always said that pictures speak much louder than words and I agree 100%. So here are the pictures from our magnificent day TWO! Right after lunch we went outside to explore our school garden with Nurse Amy! We picked marigold seeds which we are going to plant in our classroom! Check out all the fun we had!  It was a busy day indeed, but so much fun! I can't wait for tomorrow! Love, Miss Brehm

Sunshine Chair

This is our Sunshine Chair! It is a very special place in our classroom where friends can go to relax, regroup, think and feel safe. In our classroom anyone can go and sit in the sunshine chair any time they want. Friends also may be invited to sit in the sunshine chair. While sitting in the chair friends are able to watch Zogika and calm their minds. It is not just for students! I myself have used the chair once or twice when I am feeling frustrated, sad or if I just need some space. I do this to model the expectations for how to use the sunshine chair, to identify feelings and to help friends self regulate. Also so friends know that it is not a time out chair or take a break chair.  Feel free to stop by anytime and check out this amazing space in our classroom! Love, Miss Brehm

Happy News!

Hello! I wanted to share with everyone that I have been accepted into Oxford University's MSc in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition beginning in the fall of 2017. I received my offer this morning during our delayed opening. Some friends overheard my excitement and I explained to them that I am going back to school this fall to become a better teacher. I reassured them that I am not going anywhere right now, will see them off to first grade and will be back. Thank you for your continued support and I am excited to finish a great year together!
