How-To

Last week we started a new type of writing! We switched from narrative to informational writing. Writers have been working on How-To stories. There have been How-To stories that talk about how to make toast, a pb & j, plant flowers, ride a skateboard, swim and much more! Currently there are three parts to our How-To writing that we are focusing on. The first is telling what we do in steps, then numbering the steps (making sure they are in order you can't eat a pb & j if it doesn't have any peanut butter or jelly on it!), the last part is making sure there is a picture for each step that is labeled and detailed!

Writers have been BLOWING me AWAY with their writing. We have hit the ground running and have been creating How-To books that are so informative that they are teaching others about things they love! Today we started taking turns teaching friends what we know how to do. Today a friend taught us how to make cupcakes! It is so amazing to see! I can't wait to see what else they teach us about!

Some ideas for you to think about at home are talk through daily activities you do everyday at home. Use transitional language such as first, second, next, after, then, finally or last.

I wish you well.

Love,
Miss Brehm

Day TWO!

Day two is truly wonderful! We have so much fun together! Today we started working on our first classroom book and WOW it's going to be AMAZING! So many beautiful illustrators and creative thinkers in this class. Also today we completed our first of many Math and Writing rotations. It's been a busy busy busy day! Now to the fun stuff. It's always said that pictures speak much louder than words and I agree 100%. So here are the pictures from our magnificent day TWO! Right after lunch we went outside to explore our school garden with Nurse Amy! We picked marigold seeds which we are going to plant in our classroom! Check out all the fun we had!  It was a busy day indeed, but so much fun! I can't wait for tomorrow! Love, Miss Brehm

Sunshine Chair

This is our Sunshine Chair! It is a very special place in our classroom where friends can go to relax, regroup, think and feel safe. In our classroom anyone can go and sit in the sunshine chair any time they want. Friends also may be invited to sit in the sunshine chair. While sitting in the chair friends are able to watch Zogika and calm their minds. It is not just for students! I myself have used the chair once or twice when I am feeling frustrated, sad or if I just need some space. I do this to model the expectations for how to use the sunshine chair, to identify feelings and to help friends self regulate. Also so friends know that it is not a time out chair or take a break chair.  Feel free to stop by anytime and check out this amazing space in our classroom! Love, Miss Brehm

PAINT DAY!

Paint is READY! We are SO excited to meet Mary and paint our elephant!! ____________________________ Today was AMAZING! It surpassed all my wildest dreams! As a group we had SO much fun creating and painting our elephants! What an amazing experience it was to end our year together on! I hope you enjoy the pictures and are able to come and check out the wonderful elephants we created with MARY! Our morning started with Mary sharing what she does and different murals she has done throughout the US. Then we watched a quick video of her time in Chester, PA painting elephants!  Then we started to PAINT! Here is the evolution of our elephants!  To the finished product! One elephant will be hung in our classroom and the other will be hung somewhere in the school for everyone to enjoy!  A truly AMAZING day!  I wish you well! Love, Miss Brehm
