W E L C O M E

A new school year is about to kick off (t-25 days) and I am beyond excited to be back at JES!

(the face doesn't do the excitement justice)

To my new families WELCOME! To my old WELCOME BACK! As I always say it is truly an honor and privilege to teach your child and I am immensely grateful for the opportunity!

Unfortunately, I will not be able to start the year off with everyone. I am just finishing up my MSc in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition at Oxford. However, I will be back stateside September 4th and ready to welcome my new academics to our classroom family on September 5th!

I know starting school especially kindergarten can be filled with joy, tears, laughs, worry, excitement and 'oh my gosh how old is my child?!?' moments. I apologize for not being there from the beginning to help ease the process, but with that said, I will do my very best to make sure the transition into kindergarten is as smooth as possible!

Communication is of the utmost importance to me! If you ever have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out via my school email. (Once I am back stateside I will give you my phone number). I will do my very best to answer any questions you may have, please keep in mind I am five hours ahead, writing a 20,000-word dissertation, and trying to get ready to teach again!

Okay, that is all for now! Once I have more info to share I will! Please enjoy the rest of the summer, eat a maple creemie for me, and give your future kindergartener a big hug from me! I can't wait to see what this incredible year has in store! See you all in September!

I wish you well!
Love,
Miss Brehm

First Day Fun!

Today was a wonderful day! We had fun exploring our classroom, learning different expectations and just getting to know one another! We enjoyed our first special today LIBRARY! Mrs. Burroughs is so nice and we enjoyed our time together. As a class we read the book Shh We Have a Plan by Chris Haughton. It is a wonderful book that we will be creating our first classroom book about! In the whirl of the end of day I forgot to send home the first day letters with our schedule. I will make sure to get them home tomorrow in Thursday folders. I am so happy that we are all together! I can't wait to see what this year has in store for us!  Love, Miss Brehm

Reminders

There are just a few things I would like to remind you about! Tomorrow we are skyping with  Dianne White  author of  Blue on Blue.   We have brainstormed questions together and have even started to write our own poem inspired by the book. It is sure to be amazing! Here is a taste of our poem inspired by Dianne White... Fluffy snow On winter night. Green on green White on white. Skating, sledding Snowy day. Silver on white On golden day. If you are able to please donate to our classroom PIE (Partners in Education) themed basket raffle fundraiser. Our classroom theme is Summer Fun ! I have set aside a bin in our classroom for donations. The items must be in by Thursday, March 9th. Thank you for supporting our class and school. Scholastic Book Orders are due this Friday, February 17th . Our Flynn field trip is Tuesday, March 21st . We will leave JES at 8:30 am and return at 11:15 am. We will have snack before we leave and be back in time for...

Sunshine Chair

This is our Sunshine Chair! It is a very special place in our classroom where friends can go to relax, regroup, think and feel safe. In our classroom anyone can go and sit in the sunshine chair any time they want. Friends also may be invited to sit in the sunshine chair. While sitting in the chair friends are able to watch Zogika and calm their minds. It is not just for students! I myself have used the chair once or twice when I am feeling frustrated, sad or if I just need some space. I do this to model the expectations for how to use the sunshine chair, to identify feelings and to help friends self regulate. Also so friends know that it is not a time out chair or take a break chair.  Feel free to stop by anytime and check out this amazing space in our classroom! Love, Miss Brehm
