32/100

It was a cold day here, but thankfully warmed up by the time we had afternoon recess! Our days have been super busy learning so many wonderful new things! Practicing counting, reading and writing! By far our favorite thing to look forward to are our letters we receive EVERY DAY! Definitely our highlights.  We are almost halfway there! It has been amazing to learn about all these wonderful schools! We have learned so many different things AND learn that we share so many similarities! If you get a chance please do come check out all our really COOL letters! They take up a whole wall!  A big thank you to the kindergarten teachers and students who have taken the time to write back! Love, Miss Brehm

19/100 Letters for 100 Days

It was a great day in K! I am happy to be back and feeling better. Thank you for all your kind thoughts and wishes! I definitely think it helped. First I want to apologize for not sending home my weekly letter. I did not have enough time today to get one out. It is usually a letter that I start on Monday and work on all week. I will make sure one gets home next week. It has been an exciting week for kindergarten! On Monday the letters started to flood in! Mrs. Bouchard, Ms. C and I found FIVE letters in our mailboxes on Monday and they just keep coming! We are having so much fun hearing from our wonderful kindergarten friends, learning about their classrooms, towns and communities! If you find yourself traveling to our classroom from the front office you will see it on the wall to your left. We add to it everyday!  I hope everyone stays healthy! Love, Miss Brehm

4 Winds: Skull Sleuthing

Today we had our January 4 Winds! It was SO COOL! We learned about skulls and focused on different types of teeth omnivore, carnivore and herbivores have! Our time started with a fun puppet show with a squirrel inviting different friends over for a party. The squirrel worried about what to feed everyone and talked about the different types of food animals eat and where they fall i.e. omnivore, carnivore or herbivore. Then we tried out our teeth! Leigh brought in carrots, popcorn and dried mango to highlight the three different types of teeth you use as an omnivore and to relate it back to the way animals eat different types of food! It was fun to be able to talk about the way we eat different foods! We ended out time together in two different groups focusing on skulls and examining their teeth. Based on the skull size and their teeth we had to determine whether they were a omnivore, carnivore or herbivore and what kind they were! It was s...

Buddy Reading Celebration

Yesterday we had a whole school celebration of buddy reading! Mr. Brezic's class came in to buddy read with us. We had so much fun reading our books to 4th graders and listening to 4th graders read to us! One of our favorite celebrations so far! We are definitely super readers!  Have a wonderful weekend! Love, Miss Brehm

Recess

We finally made it outside to the playground!!!!! It has been either bitter cold with a windchill lower that 0 degrees or it has been a sheet of ice! Today we finally made it outside for recess in the morning AND in the afternoon! Definitely something to celebrate! Now we just need some snow to make this cold weather worth it! I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend! Love, Miss Brehm

World Read Aloud Day

Thursday, February 16, 2017 is World Read Aloud Day. This is a day to take action on behalf of the 758 million people who can not read. It is sponsored by LitWorld. Mrs. Burroughs shared information with us that led us to a list of authors that volunteered their time to skype with schools around the nation. How cool!! As I was scrolling through the authors names I recognized one that we have in our classroom library, Dianne White, the author of Blue on Blue . I was able to reach out and connect with Dianne and she agreed to skype with us on World Read Aloud Day at 12pm! Here is the link to her website http://diannewrites.com/. We are thrilled and honored that she will be taking time out of her day to share in our common love of books and reading!  For the next month we will be reading the book many times, creating our own book inspired by Blue on Blue and preparing questions to ask Dianne when we skype. If you have any questions or would like to join us please le...

Happy News!

Hello! I wanted to share with everyone that I have been accepted into Oxford University's MSc in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition beginning in the fall of 2017. I received my offer this morning during our delayed opening. Some friends overheard my excitement and I explained to them that I am going back to school this fall to become a better teacher. I reassured them that I am not going anywhere right now, will see them off to first grade and will be back. Thank you for your continued support and I am excited to finish a great year together! Love, Miss Brehm

100 Letters!

100 Letters have been sent out to 100 schools in 50 states! Two per state! We hope to get 100 responses by February 7th! Wish us luck! We will be sure to update you when we get responses! Just a quick reminder tomorrow is a late start! Hope everyone is having a wonderful Tuesday! Love, Miss Brehm

We Have SNAP Power!

We are SUPER READERS and one of our new powers is SNAP POWER! Super Readers look for words that repeat, then they go check out the word wall to see if the word is already up there. IF it is they keep reading. IF it is NOT they follow the steps of our chart.  So many Super Readers have discovered new snap words for us to work on! This is a great idea and a fun power to use at home so Super Readers can keep practicing!  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Reminders Scholastic Book Orders  Due Thursday 1/12/17. You can order online using our classroom code of PCR8P! Delayed Opening  is next Wednesday 1/11/17!  100th Day Celebration  Tuesday 2/7/17 more information to come! Mark in your calendars. Our celebration will be in the morning.  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ...

Someday...

It is a new year and with a new year comes thoughts of what this coming year will bring. To celebrate the new year I read a book titled Someday  by Eileen Spinelli. It is about a little girl and all of the amazing things she wants to do someday and what she is doing today to reach her goals. It is one of my all time favorite books. As a class we talked about what we want to do someday. Then we talked about all the things we are doing today to get there! We will make them into balloons. Then hang them from our lights for the rest of the year, to inspire us and remind us that anything is possible! Today we illustrated and wrote our words for our someday part of our balloon. Here they are! Enjoy! They are pretty spectacular!   They are amazing! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Reminders Scholastic Book Orders Due Thursday 1/12/17.
