We had 4 Winds today!
Today we learned about the importance of staying warm during the winter and how different animals do through feathers, fur and fat. We learned A LOT!
First we watched a fun video, then a funny puppet show!
After we put our scientist hats on and took part in an experiment. We started with hot water and poured it into five film canisters, one for each table and one control. Then we measured how hot the water was. After each table received a bag with a task to put in feathers, cotton balls and/or hay to use as insulators. Each table could choose whatever they wanted. Next the students decided where to place the canister in the bag. Then I put them all outside with the goal to see whose water would stay the warmest!
While we waited we played a memory game with different animals that use feathers, fat or fur to stay warm during winter.
Then it was time to remeasure the temperature of our water. All of the tables did wonderful because each canister of water stayed warmer than our control! Wooohooo!
It was a great afternoon filled with fun and learning! What could be better?! A HUGE thank you to the family volunteers! We had a blast!
Love,
Miss Brehm
