Only One You

Wednesday was wonderful getting to know each and everyone of you! I am so excited to embark on a fabulous year with you! I know it will be great! While we were together we shared in our 'Cookie Jar Greeting', then I shared one of my favorite stories Only One You written by Linda Kranz.

This book is about a little fish who is going out into the great big world, but before he can do that he needs to listen to some great advice his mom and dad want to share. Before Adri, the son, swims away he tells his parents that he will remember everything he learned. His mom kissed him and said "There's only one you in this great big world, (m)ake it a better place." Once we finished reading we talked about how we could do that and how each and everyone of us is special in our own way! Each student received a fish that he/she could color however he/she wished. This was a great time to talk and learn more about one another. At the end we said goodbye, everyone excited for next wednesday!
I placed the fish on our bulletin board. So that we are reminded throughout the first weeks of school that we are special and that everyone can make a difference! It was a great way to kick off the beginning of the year!

Hope you are all enjoying your last few days of summer and staying cool!

Love

First Day Fun!

Today was a wonderful day! We had fun exploring our classroom, learning different expectations and just getting to know one another! We enjoyed our first special today LIBRARY! Mrs. Burroughs is so nice and we enjoyed our time together. As a class we read the book Shh We Have a Plan by Chris Haughton. It is a wonderful book that we will be creating our first classroom book about! In the whirl of the end of day I forgot to send home the first day letters with our schedule. I will make sure to get them home tomorrow in Thursday folders. I am so happy that we are all together! I can't wait to see what this year has in store for us!  Love, Miss Brehm

Sunshine Chair

This is our Sunshine Chair! It is a very special place in our classroom where friends can go to relax, regroup, think and feel safe. In our classroom anyone can go and sit in the sunshine chair any time they want. Friends also may be invited to sit in the sunshine chair. While sitting in the chair friends are able to watch Zogika and calm their minds. It is not just for students! I myself have used the chair once or twice when I am feeling frustrated, sad or if I just need some space. I do this to model the expectations for how to use the sunshine chair, to identify feelings and to help friends self regulate. Also so friends know that it is not a time out chair or take a break chair.  Feel free to stop by anytime and check out this amazing space in our classroom! Love, Miss Brehm
