How-To Writing

Last week we started a new type of writing! We switched from narrative to informational writing. Writers have been working on How-To stories. There have been How-To stories that talk about how to make toast, a pb & j, plant flowers, ride a skateboard, swim and much more! Currently there are three parts to our How-To writing that we are focusing on. The first is telling what we do in steps, then numbering the steps (making sure they are in order you can't eat a pb & j if it doesn't have any peanut butter or jelly on it!), the last part is making sure their is a picture for each step that is labeled and detailed! Writers have been BLOWING me AWAY with their writing. We have hit the ground running and have been creating How-To books that are so informative that they are teaching others about things they love! It is so amazing to see! I can't wait to see what else they teach us about! Some ideas for you to think about at home are talk through daily activities yo...

Elephant & Piggie

We are getting ready for our Flynn trip to see  Elephant and Piggie ! In our classroom Library we have a large collection of Mo Willems best books! Mrs. Bahr read I Can Fly!   to friends this afternoon! We are really excited and can't wait to see them in REAL LIFE! A reminder the trip is March 21st. 4 Wind: Feathers

Today we explored feathers and it was SO cool! Together we dove right into looking at feathers and classifying them into different groups. We learned about the difference between feathers that keep birds warm and that are meant for flying. Each group was able to check out a bird wing and use magnifying glasses. There were discussions about how birds bones are hollow to help them fly as well as that bird feathers were also used to write with ink. After we had the chance to look at the talons of two different types of birds! Our time together ended with a much loved puppet show talking about the different adaptations birds have that make them unique! We LOVE 4 Winds! Thank you to our parent volunteers that were able to reschedule due to our snow day last week! It was so much fun! I hope everyone had a great weekend! Four more days until we have a week and two days off! They are going to be filled with fun! Love, Miss Brehm

Jammin'

We love our jams and we really love the Koo Koo Kangaroos! Every morning lately we have started our day with two to three jams! The rollercoaster is our new favorite! I love seeing how much fun they have! Even though the 100th day has come and gone we are still receiving letters! Today we received two more and that has brought us to a grand total of 50 ! We are halfway there! Hopefully they keep coming in! This afternoon we finished our read aloud book Matilda ! That means we will celebrate with popcorn and the movie soon! Scholastic Book Orders are due today! Remember you can order online with our classroom code of PCR8P! Enjoy the snow! As we have said many days this week "have a snowy day!" Love, Miss Brehm

Happy Valentine's Day

Today we celebrated Valentine's Day. In the morning we exchanged valentines and then spent time opening and exploring them. Afterwords we switched to writing. At writing today we wrote valentines to someone we love. It could be anyone Ms. Graf, mom, dad, a sibling, a grandparent, teacher or friend. It was a wonderful way to share how special that person is to us and how much we love them. Love is a beautiful thing and something that I believe is important to share and spread. There was a lot of love today in our class and it was wonderful. I will leave you with a valentine I received from a friend today. "I love you because you give me hugs because you teach me I love you because you smile at me I love you because you love me" Happy Valentine's Day! Love, Miss Brehm

Hot Coco and Dancing

Our winter walk was turned into a dance party due to the weather! We had a blast dancing together! At the end we all enjoyed some nice warm hot coco back in our room! Hope you have a great weekend! Love, Miss Brehm

Published Narratives!

Today we published our narrative pieces! We have been working hard on telling our true stories writing down all the sounds we hear, using our word wall to help us write our stories, adding labels and speech bubbles. These narratives are amazing! Each student worked hard and put all of themselves into the story. They will be on display for everyone to see! Come check them out! Love, Miss Brehm

100 Days Smarter. 100 Days Kinder.

Today was our 100th day! Our 100 day celebration was full of fun! There were five stations friends rotated through. Each group was able to make 100 day sunglasses and crowns. They were challenged to build a structure with 100 cups, play hop scotch counting by 10's to 100 and count out 100 pieces of snack! After our rotations we enjoyed our snack and each friend was given a juice to celebrate! Later Mrs. Bahr read us a fun 100th Day book! After I challenged friends to read 100 books and write 100 words. We wrote 100 words and read 115 books!!! It was a truly amazing day! Enjoy the many pictures from today! We are 100 days smarter, 100 days kinder, 100 days more respectful and 100 days more loving.  Happy 100th Day! Love, Miss Brehm
