Magnificent Mathematicians

We have been working really hard in math! We have been exploring our classroom manipulatives, making numbers out of popsicle sticks, writing our numbers in shaving cream and working on 1:1 correspondence and finger patterns up to 20! We've been busy mathematicians! Love, Miss Brehm

Junie B. Jones

We had a great time at the Flynn today! The performance was great! I am extremely impressed with how respectful our class was before, during and after the show. I was very proud to say I was with them! On our way! Sorry it's not my best panoramic!  (It's actually my worst, but you get to see where we sat!) Hope you all have a great day! Love, Miss Brehm

Birthday Celebration AND Cardboard Challenge!

Today we celebrated a very special friend's birthday! He turned 6! Such a special moment we were all able to share! After our fun birthday celebration we had the CARDBOARD CHALLENGE! A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO VOLUNTEERED! Today would not have been such a huge success if it had not been for your help! Thank you. We have some amazing engineers! They created many different and unique houses, a boat, a birdhouse, a robot, a ramp and a oven! As I have said before the pictures will speak far better than my words!  It has been such an awesome day!  Love, Miss Brehm p.s. Scholastic Book Orders are due tomorrow!

Wonderful Writers

We are truly a group of wonderful writers! These are some of the anchor charts you will find in our classroom! They contain some of the strategies and language we are using to approach and talk about our writing. Hope you have a great day! Love, Miss Brehm

Beautiful Day

Today was a beautiful day and everyone was dressed in their best for picture day! It was such a treat to see! We got our first full class picture today! (The first ones did not have Mrs. Bahr in them) IT was such a beautiful day we had to do it outside! Hope everyone has a fabulous day! Love, Miss Brehm p.s. LIBRARY BOOKS CAME HOME TODAY! WOOOHOO! Please be on the lookout for them!

5 Senses

We became scientists today and explored our five senses! We read the book My Five Senses by Aliki and then filled out our classroom anchor chart! We are really excited to be scientists and continue exploring our senses!  Love, Miss Brehm

Math Menu (Workshop)

Today was our first day of Math Menu and it was a success! After a brief explanation of how it works each small group took off with their different activities and were engaged! Here is what our anchor chart looks like! The anchor chart is up on the whiteboard so everyone can see. Then each small group (no more than three students) gets a Math Workshop Map. They take these maps with them to each station. The blue star is always me at my horseshoe table (it actually required me to clean it off SCARY!). The yellow hexagon, green triangle and orange square are always Mrs. Bahr working on PNOA skills (counting to 50, counting backwards from 17, one-to-one correspondence etc.). The red trapezoid, black rectangle and purple circle are different activities each small group gets to explore independently.  So far it has been working seamlessly! (Only one day, but I am an optimist!) The true test will be how it goes tomorrow (and the rest of the year :-D)! I definitely have the be...

Something New

We got a new rug!!!! We are pretty excited about it! Hope you have a good day! Love, Miss Brehm

A Time to Relax

Kindergarten can get pretty busy! There is always so much to do, listen to and observe! It's nice to be able to take a break when we need one. We find a comfortable spot around our classroom, turn off the lights and listen to some calming music. Mrs. Bahr and I join once everyone has settled into a spot.  Some friends are able to close their eyes and find a short moment to truly relax. Our moments usually last about 2 minutes start to finish. This is something we enjoy doing as a group! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and enjoys the cooler weather coming our way! Love, Miss Brehm

First Delayed Opening

Today was our first delayed opening! I will have to say it was strange (for me, I continued to forget) and I really missed all of the bright, cheerful, happy faces I get to see first thing! Good news it was just a short period of time and we were able to jump right into our day together! :D These are the bright, beautiful faces I was greeted with this morning! I LOVE it when we are all together! Hope it puts a smile on your face like it did mine! Love, Miss Brehm

Fall Conference Sign Up

WOW! It is hard to believe that in just a short month we will be having our fall conferences! This school year is already flying by! Tonight please be on the lookout for sign up sheets at your child's table spots! If you can fill it out tonight AWESOME! (leave it right on the table!) If not no worries, please give it back to me ASAP! Please remember that all times are suggested and work best for me during this week. I am super flexible and if none of these times work for you we can work something out! Can't wait to see everyone tonight! Love, Miss Brehm

Champ and Me by the Maple Tree

Today we read the book Champ and Me by the Maple Tree by Ed Shankman. It is an awesome story of a young girl and what she does with her new found friend Champ! We then talked about what we would want to do if we met Champ. Between jumping on a trampoline, solving a puzzle, swimming and swinging we really thought of some exciting things to do. Once we had brainstormed some ideas, we decided to make our own book! Each student drew what he/she wanted to do with Champ in pencil this morning. Mrs. Bahr and I traced over their drawings with permanent marker. Then this afternoon each student was able to watercolor paint his/her drawing. We will be binding the pictures into our very first classroom book, Champ and Miss Brehm's Class by the Maple Tree ! It will be a very special book. This book will go home with each student with our very own Champ and the original book for two days! Champ and the books will be accompanied by a journal. In that journal parents can help their...

Wonderful Wednesday!

It is hard to believe that we have already been in school for one week! What a wonderful week it has been! Today we took time discovering some of the math materials we will be using throughout the year! We each took a turn rotating through the different stations. Once everyone had a turn we all gathered and talked about what we noticed.  We noticed some things were the same and others were different! We worked really hard today! Hope you're staying cool in this heat! Love, Miss Brehm
