Writing Class

This semester I have been taking part in a writing class. I have learned many important aspects about writers workshop. My goal for the year is to keep my minilessons short ten minutes or less. I want to speak with intent so that every writer will be able to understand and take away the main teaching point. As a part of this class, I worked with Ariane Ehtesham, we created a feature bleacher (movie) focusing on the important aspects of the writers workshop.  (This youtube account is managed through the JES. The video is posted so that you must have the link to view and you cannot find it through youtube's search engine.) I love to learn and this has been such a wonderful and valuable experience! Hope you enjoy the short window into our writer's workshop! Love, Miss Brehm

Yoga!

Throughout the year we have been practicing mindfulness. Yoga is one way to practice mindfulness! Today we learned three different yoga poses Down Dog, Cobra and Airplane! It helps center us and get ready for what comes next in our day. We practiced them all together as a class, then divided into groups and became experts in them! Check out our work!  We love practicing mindfulness!  Love, Miss Brehm

Thankful

As we reflect this coming week on the many different things we are thankful for, I want you to know how grateful and thankful I am for you. I feel honored and lucky to be a part of your child’s life at such a wonderful time. I would not be able to teach without your support. Thank you. I hope your break is peaceful and joyful. Love, Miss Brehm

Publishing Party!

Our wonderful writers have published their first writing piece! After a lot of hard work we were able to celebrate our amazing finished pieces! They are absolutely amazing! We celebrated by putting them on display at our table spots and walking around to read each one! I made brownies to share! They will be on display for everyone to see when we get back from break! After students cleaned out their writing folders, saved two of their favorite pieces and took the rest home!  Love, Miss Brehm

Hello Kindergarten

November Four Winds!

Today we learned all about ecosystems! We had a blast exploring dead logs and learning that even though a log may be dead things still live in it! We enjoyed an amazing puppet show and even had a special guest! After we went outside for hands on experiences with ecosystems! We found beetles, a millipede, a worm and slug! How fun! We had a great time! Thank you so much to our parent volunteers for making it such a wonderful success!  Love, Miss Brehm

Take the Smooth Road

Mr. Lane, our guidance counselor, has been teaching us how to take the smooth road! He told us that it is a choice to take the smooth or bumpy road. Nobody can make you bumpy. It's our choice. He gave us eight different ways to stay smooth! Mr. Lane made us a fabulous poster and it is hung in our dramatic play area so we can remember the eight different strategies! Once Mr. Lane explained them to us we practiced them! It was a lot of fun!  I can already see friends using these strategies to stay on the smooth road! It's fabulous! Love, Miss Brehm

Dragons Love Everything!

Champ went home with his last friend last week! He has now been retired to our classroom as a reading buddy! We are excited to introduce our new friend Dragon! We read the book Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin and created our own book inspired by it titled Dragons Love Everything ! We can't wait to share it with you and see what adventures our friend Dragon goes on!! Love, Miss Brehm

Goodbye Fin, Hello Nemo!

As many of you know... Fin has been sick for a very long time. He has suffered from fin rot for three months. I decided the best thing for him was to come live with me. I did not want to leave the classroom without a friend, so Sunday I went to get Nemo. Nemo is a great new addition to our classroom! Fin is greatly missed, but we are very happy to have Nemo! Love, Miss Brehm

BOOKS! BOOKS! BOOKS!

Today is a special day! Each student is taking home their own leveled book! (Found in the Thursday Folders!) They can keep these books for the rest of the school year and return at the end of the year, or they can return the book once they feel it has been mastered. I read the book with each student individually, they practiced reading it to a friend and then throughout the day they were offered a chance to read it to the whole class! Some readers chose to read in front of the class and others did not. Please encourage your student to read this book to you many times. Focus on 1:1 correspondence pointing under each word as it is read. I will try to send books home as often as possible! Love, Miss Brehm
