Champ and Me by the Maple Tree

Today we read the book Champ and Me by the Maple Tree by Ed Shankman. It is an awesome story of a young girl and what she does with her new found friend Champ!
We then talked about what we would want to do if we met Champ. Between jumping on a trampoline, solving a puzzle, swimming and swinging we really thought of some exciting things to do. Once we had brainstormed some ideas, we decided to make our own book! Each student drew what he/she wanted to do with Champ in pencil this morning. Mrs. Bahr and I traced over their drawings with permanent marker. Then this afternoon each student was able to watercolor paint his/her drawing.

We will be binding the pictures into our very first classroom book, Champ and Miss Brehm's Class by the Maple Tree! It will be a very special book. This book will go home with each student with our very own Champ and the original book for two days! Champ and the books will be accompanied by a journal. In that journal parents can help their son/daughter scribe what they did with Champ! I am very excited to see all of the adventures Champ will go on with everyone!

Hope you all had a fabulous day!
Love,
Miss Brehm

First Day Fun!

Today was a wonderful day! We had fun exploring our classroom, learning different expectations and just getting to know one another! We enjoyed our first special today LIBRARY! Mrs. Burroughs is so nice and we enjoyed our time together. As a class we read the book Shh We Have a Plan by Chris Haughton. It is a wonderful book that we will be creating our first classroom book about! In the whirl of the end of day I forgot to send home the first day letters with our schedule. I will make sure to get them home tomorrow in Thursday folders. I am so happy that we are all together! I can't wait to see what this year has in store for us!  Love, Miss Brehm
